From A Bibliography of Alexandre Dumas père by Frank Wild Reed: Following shortly after the failure of the daily "Mousquetaire," this weekly journal was for some time a great success ; Dumas put much of himself and much good work into it. Even when absent in Russia he kept it regularly supplied with material.
The first number appeared on the 23rd of April, 1857, eleven weeks after the cessation of its predecessor. It continued to be published until the 3rd of May, 1860. It was again resumed on the 1st of January, 1862, and appeared until the 10th of October in the same year.
Many of Dumas' best causeries are to be found in its pages, also the continuation of : Les Mohicans de Paris,
and the following complete productions : Madame de Chamblay (Ainsi soit-il!). La Route de Varennes. Impressions de Voyage : en Russie. La Maison de Glace. La Frégate l'Espérance (La Princesse Flora). Black. Le Chasseur de Sauvagine. Journal de Mme Giovanni. Le Meneur de Loups. Une Aventure d'Amour. Herminie. Masaniello. Une Odyssée en 1860. La Colombe. Le Volontaire de '92.
Etc., etc.
It was in the number for April 22nd, 1858, of this journal that Dumas issued his prospectus for a tour of the Eastern Mediterranean. This project was first delayed by the journey to Russia and the Caucasus; then, when it was again about to eventuate, in 1860, it was finally interrupted and then prevented by Dumas allying himself with the expedition and the fortunes of Garibaldi.
