Herminie; Une Amazone

conte/short story, pub:1845

From A Bibliography of Alexandre Dumas père by Frank Wild Reed:
It seems probable that this is the story printed as a serial in "Le Siècle" between September 29th and October 3rd, 1845, under the title of "Une Amazone." No such title is now to be found in the Calmann-Lévy list, which however does include "Herminie."
Dumas published (or republished) this in his journal, "Le Monte-Cristo," from June 3rd to 17th, 1862, where he refers to the incident as having occurred in 185—. Does this indicate a re-shaping of the story which had appeared in "Le Siècle"? Yes!
It is a modern story of the "bal masqué" type. Dumas claims in a brief foreword, that, save for an alteration in the names, it is true.
"Herminie" (with "Marianna"); Brussels, Méline Cans et Cie., 1 vol. (1859).
"Herminie" (with "Une Aventure d'Amour"), one volume in the Calmann-Lévy standard edition.
This latter firm also issued a "de luxe" edition of "Herminie" alone, small 8vo., at various prices, including one on Japanese paper, with plates, as "Herminie, l'Amazone," Paris, 1888.
It is found in Vol. XVIII. of Le Vasseur's "Alexandre Dumas Illustré."
