From A Bibliography of Alexandre Dumas père by Frank Wild Reed: Twenty stanzas, of which Nos. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19 and 20 are of four lines, rhyming a, b. a, b ; Nos. 7, 8, 9 and 10 are of five lines, rhyming a, b, a, a, b ; and Nos. 11, 12 and 13 are of six lines, rhyming a, a, b, c, c, b. This description refers to the printed texts.
It first appeared in "La Psyché," January, 1829.
It was reprinted by M. Glinel in his "Alexandre Dumas et Son Œuvre," pp. 227 to 230.
In his MS. collection of Dumas' poems M. Glinel draws attention to the need for avoiding confusion between this piece and one called "Réverie" in the MS. "Préludes Poétiques." (See note page 33.)
The autograph MS. of this poem was sold at the Hôtel Drouot on the 23rd of November, 1885, being purchased by M. Ernest Lemaître, avocat of Laon. M. Glinel notes eight variants between this and the printed versions, and also an additional six-lined stanza, which falls between the 12th and 13th of the text found in "La Psyché."
