La Divine Comédie

The Divine Comedy

vers/verse, pub:1835

Verse translation of Dante's Divine Comedy.

From A Bibliography of Alexandre Dumas père by Frank Wild Reed:
     144 lines, rhyming in couplets.
An attempt at a translation into French of the First Canto of Dante's "Inferno."
Dumas evidently regarded this as a serious piece of work, and equipped it with a number of notes.
It first made its appearance in the "Revue des Deux Mondes" for the 1st of March, 1836, in an article entitled "Guelfes et Gibelins."
This essay, and consequently the piece of verse, is now to be found in "Les Hommes de Fer," both in the standard Calmann-Lévy edition and in Le Vasseur's "Alexandre Dumas Illustré," Vol. VIII.
