From A Bibliography of Alexandre Dumas père by Frank Wild Reed: Three regular four-line stanzas, rhyming alternately.
The manuscript of this piece is signed "Alexandre Dumas Père," but is not dated.
It was printed in "Le Semeur," a literary and artistic review appearing every fifteen days ; Paris, No. 9 Place des Voges, in the part for December 25th, 1887, page 44.
It proves to be one of the songs sung by the heroine in Dumas' romance, "Madame de Chamblay," and is there found in Chapter XXXI. (It does not find a place in the drama drawn from this story.) This enables us to give it the date of at least as early as 1858.
