From A Bibliography of Alexandre Dumas père by Frank Wild Reed: M. Glinel possessed a facsimile of the MS. of this song, signed "Alex. Dumas, Messina, 1835."
It formed one of three pieces comprising the "Souvenirs de Naples" (see above).
It has been set to music under the title of "Lamento," by Hippolyte Monpou ; Paris, firm of Bernard Latte, No. 2 Boulevard des Italiens ("Le Monde Musical." 6th year; Paris, L. Mayaud et Cie., No. 36, Rue de Grammont).
It was republished in "Le Monte-Cristo," Vol. V., No. for September 15th, 1859, pp. 346-47, being a part of Chapter XXVII. of "Les Aventures de John Davys."
