From A Bibliography of Alexandre Dumas père by Frank Wild Reed: A prose drama in five acts and eleven tableaux, drawn from the first part only (that originally published) of Dumas' romance of the same name.
This, the last of Dumas' plays, or at least the last to be performed and published under his name and during his life-time, was apparently his own unaided work. It is pleasant to know that his final effort was very well received by the public.
It was first performed at the Châtelet Theatre on the 10th of March, 1869.
It did not appear in print until 1874, when it was issued by the firm of Michel Lévy Frères, Paris, 4to. of two columns.
In the same year it was added, as the final piece, to both the collected editions of the plays as issued by Calmann-Lévy.
