From A Bibliography of Alexandre Dumas père by Frank Wild Reed: This work, as already mentioned, originally formed part of the "Histoire des Peintres." The "Three Masters" removed from the company of their fellows to make a distinct work are "Michel-Ange," "Titien" and "Raphael."

"Titien Vecelli" was published in "La Chronique" between December 1st, 1843, and January 15th. 1844.
"Michel-Ange" was printed in the "Revue des Feuilletons" for June, 1844, there stated to be from the "Galerie des Offices de Florence."
