From A Bibliography of Alexandre Dumas père by Frank Wild Reed: Seven four-line stanzas, rhyming alternately.
It first appeared in print in "L'Avenir National," No. for the 26th of June, 1866, as "Venise."
Later it was re-issued in "La Grande Revue," Paris and Saint-Pétersbourg, No. for the 15th of September, 1888, page 549. It was here however entitled: "Salut, Venise! Adieu, Venise!" M. Glinel points out four variants between the two publications.
