From A Bibliography of Alexandre Dumas père by Frank Wild Reed: A prose drama in five acts and ten tableaux, with a prologue in addition.
This play was drawn from the romance of the same title, in collaboration with Auguste Maquet. For its origins refer to the romance (page 154) and also to the drama "Une Fille du Regent" (pages 212-13). Parran describes it, with justice, as an interesting and very well-constructed drama. It varies somewhat from the romance, and the death of Roquefinette is even improved, which says much.
First performed at the Théâtre Historique on the 26th of July, 1849.
Original edition: Paris, Cadot, 8vo., 1849.
Now included in Vol. X. of the 15 Vol. edition of Calmann-Lévy, and in Vol. XV. of the series in 25 Vols.
