From A Bibliography of Alexandre Dumas père by Frank Wild Reed: "A romance put into four chapters." Songs are interspersed throughout.
It carries the names of de Leuven and Vanderburch. Dumas is however universally accredited with a share in its composition, and it is drawn from his romance of the same name. Gautier speaks highly of it, and says it follows the romance closely, but in this latter he is by no means correct.
First performed at the Théâtre du Palais-Royal on the 7th of June, 1845.
Original edition : Paris, Marchant, 1845, large 8vo. of two columns, pp. 32, forming part of the "Magasin Théâtral."

The scene of the play is advanced from the days of Louis XIV., as in the romance, to those of Louis XV.
