     Twenty-nine regular four-line stanzas, rhyming a, b, a, b.
     M. Glinel records eighteen variants between the two issues mentioned below.
     It first appeared in "Les Annales Romantiques," a collection of choice fragments of contemporary literature; Paris, Louis Janet, 1835, 1 vol., 18mo. It there occupied pp. 130 to 136.
     In "Le Petit Journal" for November 8th, 1864, Alexandre Dumas reprinted this piece with comments, dedicating it to Dom Mortes, Superior of the Grande Chartreuse of Grenoble. It is there stated to have been written in 1832.
     Finally M. Glinel re-issued it in his "Alexandre Dumas et Son Œuvre," 1884, pp. 334-337.
