From A Bibliography of Alexandre Dumas père by Frank Wild Reed: Three irregular stanzas, each of four lines, not rhyming regularly.
From an unsigned autograph manuscript in the collection of M. Glinel, who has printed it on page III of his "Alexandre Dumas et Son Œuvre."—Beims, F. Michaud, 1884.
M. Glinel states that he inserted the original MS. in No. 3 of the said work (a copy on Dutch paper) opposite page 111.
The same authority remarks that it is an adaptation, rather than a translation, of the eleventh elegy of the second book of Propertius.
