Mémoires d'Horace

roman/novel, pub:1860, action:65-29 b.c.

From A Bibliography of Alexandre Dumas père by Frank Wild Reed:
This work is described as a vast conception of Ancient Rome. We know the theme had no small attraction for Dumas. To this "roman" he has supplied a considerable amount of energy and effort ; much familiar ground is covered, and though he may have had assistance, his own hand is clear. The period is 65-29 B.C. Its author states that it is "taken from a MS. found in the Vatican Library," which is, of course, one of his mystifications.
It ran serially through "Le Siècle" from the 16th of February to the 19th of July, 1860, with, however, considerable irregularity. Dumas closes with a half suggestion of a continuation. This never appeared.
Strange to say this work has never been issued in volume form, and the text before me was copied from the file of "Le Siècle" in the Bibliothèque Nationale.
