From A Bibliography of Alexandre Dumas père by Frank Wild Reed: Eighteen regular four-line stanzas, rhyming a, b, a, b. First published in "La Psyché," July, 1826. M. Glinel republished them in his "Alex. Dumas et Son Œuvre," pp. 164 to 166.
It also forms the seventh piece, pp. 59 to 66, of the MS. "Préludes Poétiques," where it is dedicated "To my Sister," with the following epigraph from Lamartine :—
"Repassons nos jours, si tu l'oses,
Jamais l'espoir des matelots
Couronna-t-il de plus de roses
Le navire qu'on lance aux flots!"
In this there are six additional stanzas, a total of twenty-four.
It also appeared in "Almanach Dédié aux Demoiselles " for 1830. (Seemingly M. Glinel did not know this).
