From A Bibliography of Alexandre Dumas père by Frank Wild Reed: A short story of Naples during the reign of Ladislas of Hungary. Period 1414.
It may be considered as one of the productions of Dumas' Italian journeys of 1835-36.
For this he probably had no collaborator.
It first appeared in "Le Monde" about 1845, being afterwards reprinted, with vignettes, in the "Revue des Feuilletons" for February, 1845.
Original edition in book format: Paris, "Édition des Musées," 4to., 1864.
It is now included (with "Gabriel Lambert") in the standard Calmann-Lévy edition, 1 vol., and also as one in the same firm's "Musée Littéraire."
In Le Vasseur's "Alexandre Dumas Illustré" it forms part of Vol. VIII,
It was one of the short stories used to fill up the pages of the fourth, and last, part, of "La Guerre des Femmes," 1845-46.
