From A Bibliography of Alexandre Dumas père by Frank Wild Reed: Dumas claims to have written this from the notes of a Mr. Middleton-Payne, of New York. More probably it is a translation, and Dumas likely enough only revised it and touched it up.
It is supposedly the account of a journey into the heart of Brazil, where a tribe descended from the ancient Aztecs was discovered.
Original edition : Paris, Michel Lévy Frères, 1 vol., 12mo., 1865. It now fills one volume in the standard Calmann-Lévy edition.
In Le Vasseur's "Alexandre Dumas Illustré" it forms part of Vol. XXIII.
