From A Bibliography of Alexandre Dumas père by Frank Wild Reed: An account of the family of this name, and of their influence on art, etc., in the great days of Florence. It was later used by Dumas as the connecting link between "La Peinture Chez les Anciens" and "L'Histoire des Peintres."

Dumas reprinted this work in "Le Mousquetaire" between December 19th. 1854, and January 6th, 1855.
It now forms one volume in the standard Calmann-Lévy edition, one in their "Musée Littéraire," and in their illustrated series occurs with "Les Mariages du Père Olifus."
In Le Vasseur's "Alexandre Dumas Illustré" it forms part of Vol. VIII.
