From A Bibliography of Alexandre Dumas père by Frank Wild Reed: A comedy in three acts, mingled with songs.
According to Quérard, on the first night the author's name was announced as M. de Villers, which one reviewer at least considered concealed the personality of Alexandre Dumas of Villers-Cotterets. When published it appeared under the names of de Leuven and Brunswick (Lhérie). None the less Dumas is always associated with them by bibliographers.
First performed at the Théâtre des Variétés on the 9th of March, 1843.
