From A Bibliography of Alexandre Dumas père by Frank Wild Reed: Three chapters written for "La Grande Ville," a work issued in two volumes, Paris, 1843.
The subject is one Dumas, as a rule, carefully avoided ; in a brief foreword he says he undertook it because none other dared. Even so, he seemingly regretted it, but would not go back on his promise.
Original edition (as a distinct work); Paris, Dolin, 1843, 8vo., pp. 338, green cover.
It occupies, with "Les Serpents," one volume in the Calmann-Lévy standard edition, and one in their "Musée Littéraire."
In Le Vasseur's "Alexandre Dumas Illustré," in Vol. XX.
