Dieu dispose

Olympia; Samuel Gelb; God's Will Be Done

roman/novel, pub:1851, action:1829-1830

Sequel to Le Trou de l'Enfer.

From A Bibliography of Alexandre Dumas père by Frank Wild Reed:
A work decidedly inferior to its predecessor "Le Trou de l'Enfer." The collaborator here has not been identified, but a good deal of the writing lacks the inspiration of Dumas' wit and verve, and, this being absent, the story drags out to too great a length.
It is a story of revenge and much else. The period is 1829-30.
Original edition: Paris, Cadot, 6 vols., 8vo., 1851-52. Though usually credited to 1852, the set in the Reed Dumas Collection bears the date 1851 on the first two volumes and 1852 on the remaining four.
Vol. I., pp. 318 and table of contents.
Vol. II., pp. 325 and table of contents.
Vol. III., pp. 301 and table of contents.
Vol. IV., pp. 318 and table of contents.
Vol. V., pp. 325 and table of contents.
Vol. VI., pp. 354 and table of contents.
"Dieu Dispose" ends on page 280 of the sixth volume, the remainder being taken up with a short story "Le Prix de Pigeons," signed by Alexandre Dumas fils. (1)
     (1) A translation of this short story by Dumas fils was issued in the " Golden Book Magazine" for September, 1930 ("Review of Reviews Corporation," New York), under the title: "The Pigeon Prize."
"Dieu Dispose" fills two volumes in the standard Calmann-Lévy edition, and one in the same firm's "Musée Littéraire."
In Le Vasseur's "Alexandre Dumas Illustré" it is a portion of Vol. XVI.
