Étienne Mélingue - As Chicot in "La Dame de Monsoreau"

From A Bibliography of Alexandre Dumas père by Frank Wild Reed:
A prose drama in five acts and ten tableaux, preceded by a prologue in addition: "L'Étang de Beaugé."
Composed in collaboration with Auguste Maquet.
There are several distinct alterations in the presentation of the matter here when compared with the romance from which it was drawn. Notably, that Chicot is almost an adopted brother of Diane's, and it is he who puts up that magnificent last fight, pretending to be Bussy, in order to ensure the other's safety and the happiness of Diane and her lover. A change indeed ! There are plain indications that the original matter has been cut down.
First performed at the Ambigu Comique Theatre on the 19th of November, 1860.
Original edition : Paris, Michel Lévy Frères, 12mo.. pp. 196, 1860.
It is now in Vol. XIV. of the 15 Vol. Calmann-Lévy edition, and in Vol. XXIII. of the 25 Vol. series.
